n a major relief to those Indians who are working in Saudi Arabia, the Indian Embassy on Sunday announced that Saudi Arabian government had recognized the Covishield vaccine of India as an equivalent of AstraZeneca which was approved by Saudi Arabia for entry.

The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia in a tweet said, “Embassy is pleased to announce that Saudi Authorities have recognized the equivalence of Covishield vaccine in India to the Astra Zeneca vaccine which is approved by Saudi authorities.”

The embassy earlier said that a lot of NRIs are approaching Indian Diplomatic missions for clarification on the vaccine to avoid hassles during travel.

The Indian Embassy was working with Saudi authorities to get approval for Covishield.

It is worth mentioning that the GACA of Saudi Arabia has set a seven-day quarantine for foreign travelers who have not been vaccinated yet.

Saudi Arabia Approved Vaccines For Travel

  • Pfizer – BioNTech
  • Moderna
  • Oxford-AstraZeneca
  • Johnson & Johnson and
  • Covishield – Serum Institute of India

All travelers — residents, and visitors — who spend 14 days after completing their doses of vaccines approved in Saudi Arabia, do not need to quarantine themselves upon arrival in the Kingdom.

Other countries in the gulf region may also expected to announce similar decisions for entry.
